There is one thing that drives me crazy as an investor. No clear closure.
Back in February 2018, I invested in a blockchain startup right after the crypto bull run.
Fast forward a few years: one co-founder stopped showing up in the quarterly updates.
Another kept trying but eventually stopped communicating.
No official word.
No clear “here’s where things stand.”
The other day, I found out on Facebook that the CEO/founder had found love at the same time he was “starting a new business”
That left me flabbergasted.
Not because things didn’t work out
Startups fail, nothing new there.
It was because there was never any direct and professional closure.
Your investors don’t expect you to succeed every time.
What they do expect is a minimal understanding of what’s happening with their investment
Just say it straight.
We tried our best, our assumptions A & B didn't pan out, we ran out of money, we’re shutting down. We are sorry and really appreciate your trust.
Candid closure builds trust and a less of a bitter aftertaste
It also keeps relationships running.
