Your 20s are for learning.

Your 30s are for unlearning.

By then, you’ve picked up dozens of rubbish ideas of who you are and how the world works. And you’ve likely started to realize that not all that is true.

Just because your brain says something it doesn’t make it true.

Plus ,your beliefs and actions that took you here won’t take you there.

We are all obsessed with learning and growing.
But plans change, time changes, and you change.

And that’s okay.

This showed up recently in a conversation with Patricia, who’s on my team.

She stepped away from a successful project.

One that she genuinely loved and believed in.

She no longer resonated with the work itself.

She wants her work to reflect what matters most to her now.

Not to her old ideas..

And last but not least, she is now learning to choose herself, even when it’s hard.

It’s hard because it’s new. It’s not what she is used to.

That’s unlearning.
That’s courage.

And that’s what your 30s -and the rest of your life- are really for.

What do you think?

Is there something you learned about yourself or the world you are now unlearning in your 30s?
