My barber gave me one of the best business lessons I’ve heard in a long time.
Barber: “How’s your book doing?”
Me: “The reviews have been amazing… but the sales aren’t what I hoped.”
I told him I’d been in Nashville last week with the Brand Builders Group (a personal branding community) seeing people practice their keynotes on stage.
It made me realize how much visibility matters.
He listened, paused, and said in Spanish:
𝐋𝐨 𝐪𝐮𝐞 𝐧𝐨 𝐬𝐞 𝐯𝐞, 𝐧𝐨 𝐬𝐞 𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞. (𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬𝐧’𝐭 𝐬𝐞𝐞𝐧… 𝐢𝐬𝐧’𝐭 𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐝.)
Then he gave me an example from his neighborhood.
Every morning, a fruit seller walks around with a huge basket of fruits for everyone to see. By lunchtime, most of the fruit is gone.
Just someone showing up, consistently, in front of the people who need what he sells.
Everyone wants to sell online, but people still buy what meets their real needs.
“When Hurricane María hit Puerto Rico, the roads were closed, people had no cash… and our barbershop was still full.”
𝐏𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐚 𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦, and this was a good reminder that:
▶️You can have a good product.
▶️You can get amazing feedback.
▶️You can pour your heart into your work.
But if people don’t see it, it doesn’t exist for them and they can’t buy it.
